Carbon dioxide emissions are a main source of greenhouse gas that contributes to the warming of our planet. New technologies have been developed which allow us to capture these emissions before they can enter the atmosphere. Coal-fired power plants and industrial plants are using carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) techniques to lessen environmental impacts of electricity production. Captured carbon dioxide can also be used to make useful products like alcohols for use as biofuels or as commercial products including plastics, concrete and in chemical synthesis (utilization). Captured carbon can also be stored below the earth’s surface (storage).
