Let’s Think Energy: A Clean Energy Workforce

More than six million people work in energy careers in the United States. Are you a future-focused innovator, an engineer exploring new ways to harness and store power, or are you leaning toward a skilled trade (the backbone of the energy industry)? A clean energy career can be any occupation that is affected by activities such as conserving energy, developing alternative energy, reducing pollution or recycling.

Energy careers contribute to a lower carbon pollution and a net-zero emission economy while providing economic opportunities. These jobs increase the use of cleaner and more efficient energy in homes, businesses and transportation through development and demonstration of innovative technologies.

All types of workers are needed in energy careers. Regardless of  interests or education level, there is an energy job for you! You may develop infrastructure for the Smart Grid or electric vehicles (EVs), install renewable energy systems or work to increase the energy efficiency in buildings. Because of the knowledge and skills that are required, energy employees are well paid, often earning above national averages.
